Nathan Rothstein
Nathan Rothstein, 23, graduated with an honors degree in history from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in the spring of 2006.
Immediately following graduation, Mr. Rothstein joined Americorps. He spent 10 months serving for a non-profit relief organization in New Orleans' statistically poorest neighborhood, Tulane/Gravier, gutting homes, landscaping public areas, raising money for homeowners and recruiting volunteers. During his term, he helped facilitate numerous alternative spring break programs and spoke to hundreds of college students about his experiences in New Orleans and how they could get involved.
He was invited by the University of Michigan School of Public Health, Michigan Hillel and the Michigan chapter of the Roosevelt Institution to host a workshop named "Rebuilding New Orleans: Community Development Opportunities."
In the fall of 2006, he was invited to the Echoing Green national conference in New Orleans as "an emerging young leader." He is currently acting as the community outreach coordinator for New Orleans College Prep, a new charter school that will be opening in August 2007, and is working with the Jewish Federation of New Orleans to support and recruit newcomers to the city.
Before arriving in New Orleans, Mr. Rothstein worked as a teacher's assistant in the Cambridge, MA, Summer School Program, and was an assistant producer at New England Cable News.
